Solihull Arden 1st team finished their third victory in a row to keep them in top position of the Warwickshire division 1 League this past Monday. The night started off with Justyn Claydon who defeated a hungry and talented Lucy Green in a 3-0 win. It was then Josh Saysell who scraped out the victory in a close 4 games after losing the first game 12-10. Josh’s impeccable 100% record this season is still in tact securing the 2nd to last win of his English career before a permanent move to the USA beckons.
It was a strong result at 3rd string for Ryan Picken with a comfortable win 3-0. Chris Ryder was up against Sarah Jane Perry who is 6th in the World for Women’s professional squash. Chris came out gliding around the court in the first game playing some world class squash of his own. The second game was a bit closer with some back-to-back questionable calls going toward the home team Kenilworth, but nevertheless Ryder took the 2nd and finished strong in the 3rd for a solid 3-0 win. Our final match-up were the number ones with our Joe Green against Guy Pearson. It was a long and entertaining match going all the way to the fifth game, unfortunately for Arden the Green Machine broke down losing 11-9 in the fifth. Next week we will be hosting Edgbaston Priory on the 3rd of December for our final match of the half.

Two days of preparing for the best annual junior tournament in the World, held here in Birmingham! Lead by England national coach Chris Ryder, the camp will focus on matchplay, tactics and tournament preparation.
Cost: £30 per day Times: 10am - 3.30pm Elite Junior 2 day camps Solihull Arden 1st team completed their second whitewash in two weeks to put them back in pole position at the top of the Warwickshire Division 1 table.
The match of the evening was between the first strings: Arden's Joe Green vs Leamington's Elliott Devred-Morris. Joe started with some flair and clinical shots not necessarily in-keeping with his attritional style, which he later put down to using his dad's racket! However, it was Elliott that held a 2 games to 1 lead after 40 minutes following some contentious decisions from the Canadian referee. A few pearls of wisdom to Joe between games from the experienced captain and the 'Green Machine' managed to step up the intensity and clinch the tie in 5. Lower down the order, Chris Ryder won the battle of the club coaches against Jason Pike in straight games before Ryan Picken and Josh Saysell both won 3-1. Teenage squash sensation and renowned boxing prodigy Hassan Khalil won the dust-up at 5th string 3-0, perhaps demonstrating his new ruthless personality. Next week we play Kenilworth away before returning to host Edgbaston Priory on 3rd December for the final match of the half. After winning the first 3 team matches of the season, Arden have now lost the last 2 albeit against highly rated opposition, meaning they have slipped from 1st to 3rd position in the winter league.
Last night Birmingham University came out stronger, wining 3-2 in a competitive match that saw only one 3-0 result - our Canadian import Ryan Picken, playing at 2 string. The previous week's match was also a great contest with local rivals West Warks, who fielded 4 players ranked in the top 100 in the world (3 male, 1 female). Despite that, Arden picked up a win at 4th String for Josh Saysell and narrowly lost 2 of the matches 3-2 (Chris Ryder and Hassan Khalil). Next week's match is against defending champions Sutton and we are hoping to have Joe Green back in the starting line up and Sam Osbourne-Wylde back from injury. RyderSquash academy players were out in force at the Manchester silver event this weekend. Hassan Khalil upset the seedings to reach the final of the U17s beating 2 seed Ollie Green before losing 3-1 to Franklyn Smith.
Sam Osbourne-Wylde played up an age-group and fell to the 1 seed in the U17 boys 3-1 and then finished a respectable 7th. James Averill had 3 five-set matches, winning 2 and losing 1 to finish 11th after drawing the unseeded eventual winner in the first round. Ali and Smiley Khalil competed in the U11 and U13, finishing 8th and 20th respectively. Well done everyone. Looking forward to the British National Championships in Nottingham in 2 weeks time. |
